What Are You Hungry For?

My, Devotion to Him #55

VERSE PASSAGE: Matthew 5:6 "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled." - NIV

VERSE PASSAGE: Isaiah 55:1 "Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost." - NIV

In todays society people tend eat even when they aren't hungry. Over the weekend I helped at a 30hr Famine. 15 or more teens voluntarily fasted from food for 30hrs to relate to people who are dying in Africa everyday from starvation. A lot of these kids left with a renewed appreciation for the abundance of food we have in the United States. The teens are realized that they were able to go without food for 30hrs and survive. Sometimes we don't think they we will make it another second if we don't eat but yet these kids lasted 30hrs!

Now let's shift focus from physical to the spiritual. The spiritual realm is very interesting. Indeed only those who are hungry can get fed. Only those who seek the food shall eat. One of the worst things that can happen to us is spiritual complacency.

Being hungry for the things of God is one of the best things that can happen to us. Most people don't feel that way. They would rather have the feeling of being full. But Jesus promised us that fullness would follow hunger. No hunger, no fullness.

Therefore, what many people hate is actually a sign of spiritual health. Longing for more of God is a healthy sign. No one hungers for God on their own. That is not the nature of man. No man hungers for God unless the Spirit of God is drawing him.

VERSE PASSAGE: John. 6:44 “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them, and I will raise them up at the last day." - NIV

We should praise God for spiritual hunger and be encouraged. He doesn't make us hungry and then let us starve. He does so in order to fill us with His blessings and love. We need a hunger that will never be satisfied until the marriage supper of the Lamb. You see another problem with Christians is they want to sit in church and be fat! So many Christians are fat in the Word which is very unhealthy. If you never do anything with the food you are given but store it. You will become an overweight Christian. And I'm not talking about the physical. I'm talking about the spiritual weight.

We must continue to strive for God. That nothing is good enough for us with Him. That we are constantly pouring our hearts out to Him and constantly seeking Him. Through devotions, bible studies, prayer, worship, praise, church services, daily talks with Him. We need to constantly want more. Do not be contempt with what you know about God! Do not be contempt with your relationship with Him. Constantly want more of Him and push yourself to do so. Pushing our faith to the limit, training our ears to hear Him. Expanding our prayer times with Him. Randomly cutting time out to spend with God. Seek Him. If we become hungry and thirsty for more of Him, He will fill us up. We must never get the spirit of complacency in our walk with God as we will ever grow if we do.

Be blessed my brothers and sisters in the Lord.
