Salt & Light 2.0
In the first Salt & Light Devotional we read that many people spend a lifetime praying for God to move, not understanding that He is going to flow through them. It is not God who is failing to intervene. It is God's people who are failing to cooperate and let Him flow through them.
The Church and Christian need to understand that one critical piece. That God is going to flow through us as we become willing vessels to be used by Him for His Kingdom purposes. We are to execute the agenda of the Lamb. But so many of us don't because they are waiting on God to move. God is telling us to go! Jesus told us we are the salt and light of the world. However many do not understand why these two things were used as comparisons.
In Matthew 5:13-16 Jesus tells us that we are the salt of the earth and the light of the world. But what does it mean to be the salt and light of the world? Let's find out.
1. Salt Prevents Decay.
For centuries salt has been used as a preservative to prevent the deterioration of foods and meats. As followers of Christ we can prevent the destruction of souls and the decay of this world by witnessing and presenting our lives as a living sacrifice.
VERSE PASSAGE: Romans 12:1 "Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship." - NIV
Jesus expects us to stand up against sin, immorality and the exploitation of the unborn, the weak and the elderly. As this world is in it's decaying stages. We have the ability to prevent further decay and bring life through the message of Jesus Christ. We are to do whatever we can to prevent any further decay and preserve what is already good from any harm.
2. Salt and flavor
Salt has been used as a flavor enhancer for centuries as well. As followers of Christ we can influence others in the direction of Christ by the way we lived. This world is filled with sourness and bitterness. As Christians we need to enhance the flavor of this world. Introduce them to the sweetness of the Lord.
3. Salt Lamps
Salt Lamps have been used for some time. They work by emitting negatively charged ions which purify the air of bacteria and other impurities. Jesus expects us to live in a manner which eliminates sin and impurities in our lives and the lives of others.
4. Salt Licks
Salt licks have been used since ancient times to lure game or just to have animals come up to the house. Jesus has called us the salt of this world for a very good reason. We can attract others to a life style free from sin and committed to our Lord Jesus Christ. When other people see the peace we have in our live because of Christ, we can attract others to the Christian life.
5. We Who Are The Light
Jesus has not only stated that we were the salt but also the light of this world. When we live our lives in accordance with God’s will we provide light to the rest of the world to the way of Jesus Christ. We have illuminate their pathway to the one called Christ.
Today, be the salt of this world. Prevent further decay, preserve what's good, combat the bitterness of this world by enhancing the flavor by showing the sweetness of the Lord, As a lamp to others help expel sin, lure others to the Christian life, and help illuminate the pathway to Christ.
