The Root

My, Devotion to Him #109

Have you ever tried getting rid of a weed in your yard? It can be difficult. Some just don’t put the effort into it and just mow in over and hope it won’t grow back but it does and they just mow it down again. A weed needs to cut from the root. You need to take out the root to take out the weed. The same can be said for our life. Sometimes people just patch up a problem and hope that it will go away but it doesn’t and they have to patch it up again. In order to fix a problem permanently you must take tackle the root.

Verse passage: Mark 11:14,20 “Then he said to the tree, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.” And his disciples heard him say it. In the morning, as they went along, they saw the fig tree withered from the roots. Peter remembered and said to Jesus, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree you cursed has withered!” – NIV

Jesus was walking from Bethany to Jerusalem with His disciples. He was hungry, but when He saw a fig tree that didn’t have any figs He spoke to it and said “May no one ever eat fruit from you again”. It’s kinda strange that Jesus would speak to a tree. But you have to understand that the tree actually spoke to Jesus first which is why Jesus spoke back. I know this is even stranger but you have to recognize something here. The tree had not produced fruit and in which the tree was saying “It doesn’t matter if your hungry or not. I have not produced fruit for you to eat.”

If we recognize this than we would see how our own situations in life will talk to us. If you get up in the morning and you feel sick. Your sickness is talking to you. If you pray and don’t receive instant healing your sickness will talk back and try to convince you that your faith in God isn’t working and will start to hurt you.

Jesus however did not stand by and let His situation talk to Him without Him giving a response.

1. Take Action

Pray over yourself. “By His wounds I am healed completely. I am healed from head to toe. Sickness does not control over me because I am healed by the blood of Jesus. Sickness does not belong in me because I am a child of God.”

2. Stand Firm

When you pray over yourself for your healing stand firm on that prayer. One night I was praying for healing again and God asked me why I was praying again for healing. I said because I still feel like crap. He said haven’t you already prayed for healing and declared you were healed by my Sons blood He shed for you? I said yes. He said then why are you praying for healing once again? Do you not have faith in your first prayer? I said yes I do. He said then why are you praying again for something you already have faith in that it’s done? This conversation broke me. Once we have prayed for healing and have declared the healing need met we need to change the tone. When we have prayed for healing and declared the healing need met we need to switch to thanking God for His healing power that has healed us. The moment we pray a second time for healing we have casted doubted on the effectiveness of our first prayer. We have already made a spiritual statement that our first didn’t work and thus we need more prayer. Or maybe we pray again thinking God forgot to heal us or was to busy at the time. Pray and then stand firm on that prayer.

I fear this is a reason why many are still sick. They continue to pray over and over for their sickness instead of standing firm that they are healed. Once we pray we have grabbed the issue at the root. But asking to be healed over and over for the same thing is keeping us from pulling the root out. We keep grabbing it but never destroying it as the root because we simply do not stand firm on the Word of God.

God bless
